The first automation anybody writes is too broad. It is nearly always a reminder, it nearly always matches more than it was meant to, and the account owner gets eleven of them on the first morning.
Run it without letting it act
A new rule can be left in a mode where it records what it would have done and does nothing. Give it a week against real traffic. If a rule you expected to fire twice fires forty times, the condition is wrong and you have found that out cheaply.
Noise has a cost you can see
The activity view groups actions by rule, so a rule producing a quarter of everything on the record is obvious at a glance. That is usually a threshold set in optimism — fourteen days, not seven.
