Returns and warranty

A plant is alive, so it cannot be treated like a phone case. This page says exactly what we cover, for how long, and what we do not.

Last updated 1 August 2026 · applies to every order placed on this site

The short version

Thirty days of replacement on plants, seven days of change of mind on unopened pots and accessories, and no return shipping to pay when the fault is ours. Everything below is the detail behind those three lines.

Plants: 30 days from delivery, photographs are enough, no need to bring the plant in
Pots, tools, soil: 7 days from delivery, unopened and unused
Damage in transit: reported within 48 hours, replaced free
Refunds: same day for bank transfers, 3 to 5 working days for cards

The 30-day plant warranty

Every plant leaves the nursery photographed and inspected. If it declines within thirty days of arriving, send us the photographs and we replace it with the same variety, or refund it if the variety is out of stock.

What counts

Leaves yellowing, browning or dropping beyond the normal settling-in period
Root rot found when you repot within the first month
Pests that came with the plant, not ones that arrived from a neighbouring plant of yours
A plant that simply stops growing while getting the care our guide describes

What does not

Overwatering after the guide told you the soil should dry between waterings
A plant left in full midday sun when it was sold as an indirect-light plant
Damage from pets, children or a fall
Normal loss of the oldest one or two leaves as the plant adjusts to your home

We do not ask you to prove anything technical. Photographs of the plant, the pot and the spot it stands in are enough, and we decide in your favour when it is genuinely unclear.

Pots, tools and soil

Seven days from delivery, unopened and unused, for a full refund. Send it back in the original packaging, or bring it to the shop and skip the courier entirely.

A pot that arrives chipped or cracked is replaced regardless of the seven days, and you do not need to send the broken one back. Photograph it, bin it safely, and we ship the replacement on the next delivery run.

Opened bags of potting mix and fertiliser cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, unless the bag itself was damaged in transit.

Damage in transit

Tell us within 48 hours of delivery. Because every plant is photographed before wrapping, we can see immediately whether a break happened at the nursery or on the road, and neither is your problem.

Keep the packaging until the claim is settled. We occasionally ask for a photograph of it, since a crushed box tells the courier something a photograph of the plant alone does not.

How to start a return

Three ways, all equally fast:

Open the order in your account and use the report-a-problem link
Message the shop on +1 (312) 847-1928 with your order number
Reply to the order confirmation email with photographs attached

You get an answer within one working day. Approved plant replacements go out on the next delivery run, usually the same evening in the city.

Refunds

Refunds go back the way the money came in. Bank transfers are returned the same working day. Card refunds are submitted immediately and appear in three to five working days, depending on your bank. Cash on delivery is refunded by bank transfer to an account you give us.

Delivery fees are refunded whenever the fault was ours. On a change-of-mind return, the original delivery fee is kept if one was charged.

Your rights in law

Nothing on this page reduces the rights you have under consumer law. Where our policy is more generous than the law, our policy applies. Where it is not, the law does.

Disputes we cannot settle between us go to the courts, though in eleven years that has not happened once.
